Here is the Maverick-II Plus 1x22 DBR Double-Reticle Red Dot Sight and Paragon 5x30 Magnifier Review from Ralph Tupaz.
Range Review 1/2: Maverick II Plus Double Reticle and Paragon 5x30 Magnifier
Accuracy and Precision: 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
One of the fastest and easiest zeroing I've ever done. First 5 shots was to the right of the 25m target. After a windage adjustment was able to move it halfway nearer to the center and thought there was something wrong with the turret since the manual said 1 MOA is 1 click. Realized I was only ar 25 m and made another adjustment. Boom!! 2 inch group at "x" from 25m.
After this, I decided to try a 50m target. Just by simply flipping up the magnifier, I took 10 shots, 1st 3 landed right of the target and I realized the QD mount had to be tightened. After a quick tightening, the other 7 landed within a 3 inch group at the "9" and "x" rings. Absolutely amazing considering that what I'm using us a 9mm carbine.
Controls, functions and features: 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The red dot on the Maverick is perfectly crisp whether at the brightest or lowest setting. This allows for greater accuracy at distance. I initially thought the red dot would be hard to acquire, but since the optic was forward mounted acquisition was quicker but only at the higher brightness levels. The hashmarks on the windage and elevation knobs, as well as the audible clicks were a nice touch and quite helpful-was able to adjust dot position without removing cheekweld while keeping eyes on target.
The glass on the magnifier was crystal clear. Having windage and elevation adjustments was also a nice touch. I didn't need to use them since the magnifier was perfectly aligned with the red dot optic and found my red dot perfectly at the center if the magnifier. The focus adjustment on the magnifier worked perfectly and only had to be dialed-in 1x.
Build Quality, Look and Feel: 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Overall build quality is good. The profile / silhouette of the Maverick is a familiar one and is a tried and tested design. The finish is sturdy and looks durable. The multi- coated glass exudes quality. Also, as mentioned above, the hashmarks in the adjustment knobs and the audible clicks speak of attention to detail and having the "user" in mind. The inclusion of a low-mount plate was also another plus! There were only 2 things I think could be done better. First, the rubber buttons for adjusting brightness and reticle felt flimsy, and almost like low quality rubber. Second, the cantilever QD mount lock has a tendency to come loose after a number of shots. Wanted to put in blue loctite but then that would defeat the purpose of the QD. Didn't want to overtorque the nut either.
The Paragon magnifier was near close to perfect. Crystal clear glass made for a really bright and crisp target picture. Perfect, and easy alignment with the Maverick. Very responsive and precise focus adjustments. The details on the finish were very nice as wel - the embossed "VE' logo on top, and the Vector Optic brand name on the side. There was just one thing that could have been improved and this would be perfect. The windage and elevation knobs had no cover. They were bright, shiny, and exposed pieces of stainless steel. They also couldn't be adjusted with bare hands - one would need a screwdriver.
This is part 1 of 2 reviews I will do for this combo. This first part has proven that this combo works well for precisely hitting targets well beyond typical pistol caliber engagement ranges. As such, it would be safe to say that it would fare even better with rifle calibers. The second review will involve more practical application of the combo - quickly switching from red dot only to red dot and magnifier. Stay tuned!!
