Minotaur 10-50x60 GENII Rifle Scope Review

2024-07-15

Here is the Minotaur 10-50x60 GENII Rifle Scope review from José Garcês Soares.

The Minotaur 10-50x60 GENII is a great choice for precision shooting with small caliber rifles, air guns, or for competitors looking for a product a bit superior to beginner level. If you're looking for a scope with high magnification and robust features, stay tuned!

Physical Characteristics

The scope we're discussing today has a 34-millimeter main tube, a magnification range of 10x to 50x, and a 60mm objective lens. Made almost entirely of metal, it is extremely robust, with the only rubberized part being the illumination button.Another interesting point is that the Minotaur 10-50x60 is .338 Lapua Magnum proof and nitrogen-purged, preventing internal fogging and condensation in cold environments. Additionally, it is waterproof. With a length of 423 millimeters and weighing 960 grams, this scope features exposed turrets and adjustable parallax, making it suitable for various shooting conditions, especially for sports like Benchrest BR25, BR50, and Field Target.

Parallax Adjustment and Turrets

The side parallax can be adjusted from 10 yards to infinity, offering great precision. The elevation and windage turrets have 1/8 MOA clicks, allowing for very precise adjustments. A downside is that the clicks are audible but not tactile, which can be a problem in noisy environments like shooting ranges. The maximum elevation is 40 MOA, and the elevation turret includes an easy-to-set zero stop feature.

Optical Properties

The optical performance is impressive for a high-magnification scope in this price range. With an eye relief of 3.8 inches, the central image is particularly sharp, although edge details can become slightly blurry at lower magnifications. At 10x magnification, the field of view is 3.7 meters at 100 meters, reducing to 0.73 meters at 50x. This is still quite decent considering the high magnification. However, there is a tunneling effect at low magnifications, which disappears above 30x.

Reticles and Illumination

Vector Optics offers two reticle styles: the VETD-LR, with fine lines and an illuminated central dot, and the VEMP-LR, which is the unit I have, with MOA markings. Both are positioned in the second focal plane, meaning the reticle dimensions do not change with magnification.

The illumination, adjustable via a rubberized button, is the weak or less positive point of the scope. The on/off button is very difficult to operate, and sometimes, even after several attempts, the system does not work. However, when the central dot is lit, the result is excellent.

Packaging

In the packaging, you'll find a cleaning cloth, hex key, flip-up covers, sunshade, and Picatinny mounting rings.

Conclusion

Despite some issues with the illumination control, the optical performance and robust construction make up for it, especially at an affordable price. With competitors like the Falcon T50i scope and the renewed Falcon X50, if Vector Optics creates a model of the Minotaur 10-50x60 GENII with parallax more oriented for short distances (Field Target), allowing for more space between markings up to 50 meters, they could dominate the market. Vector Optics could make a version basically the same, with some adjustments, and give it a name oriented towards Field Target (FT), with a price slightly below the Falcon, and they would have the market in their hands. The world championship this year is in the United States, a huge market, and they could present the new scope for FT there. This would be a bullseye for the brand.
