Here is the Paragon 9-27x56 ED Ultra Short Spotting Scope review from Jani Nordman.
Paragon 9-27x56 ED Ultra Short spotting scope!
Over the past several weeks I have been taking my time while testing out this awesome little spotter. The reason? Because I find myself really enjoying it.
Sometimes good things come in a small package, this is one of those times. The Paragon Ultra Short spotting scope is neatly packaged in a rubber coated aluminum housing, and weighs in at just under 26 oz. It's also a mere 7.7" long, making it very compact and very easy to stow or carry.
The real question that matters when it comes to spotting glass is image quality. To put it simply, the Paragon Ultra Short spotting scope does a great job at producing a crisp image with accurate colors, and it does this throughout its entire magnification range. This means that you still see a crisp and clean image that hasn't excessively darkened even at its maximum magnification. I have spent the last several weeks watching animals at 30-100 yards, the local cliffs at 1000+ yards, and everything else in between. I even took the opportunity to view a beautiful full moon with it.
I'm a big fan of the magnification range. 9-27x is a very useful range for many different use cases. Whether you are a hunter, nature watcher, or long range shooter watching impacts on steel targets, this magnification range has got you covered. Even though the market is full of high power spotting scopes that often times go up to 60x, my experience has shown me that many times you'll end up around 30x anyway due to the massive loss of image clarity and brightness with many of those scopes. However, because the Paragon has done a great job all the way up to its maximum of 27x, you can use this little spotter for most anything that the big ones can do! That is a worthwhile note to take in my opinion.
Field of view is good for this magnification range, it is wider than several of its competitors at 4.6-2.3°. Depth of field has also shown to be relatively forgiving as well.
Notable Pros:
• Excellent value: price glass quality build quality
• Lifetime warranty
• Includes a neoprene scope cover for outdoor use
Some small Cons:
• Slightly touchy focus adjustment, a larger adjustment ratio would make it easier to finely tune the focus at farther distances.
• No built in or included Arca dovetail for tripod use. I would love to see the bottom of the scope have a built in Arca dovetail for direct mounting without the use of an adapter
• Included lense covered are not captured and cannot be tethered. They would be easy to lose.
The Paragon ED Ultra Short spotting scopes comes with a neoprene cover non captured lense covers, and a compact tabletop tripod.
The value to price ratio in my opinion is fantastic for this spotting scope, especially given it's remarkably small size.
