Well its time to let people know that there is a scope manufacturer out there to be recconed with!
Did a litte test and review of the Vector Optics Taurus 3-24 Gen II.
Hope it helps
And sorry if I misspelled some things, but im from Sweden so english isnt my first language
So…
This adventure started off with my interest in what I thought looked like a very interesting scope for my DMR rifle build.
As a new DMR shooter coming from PRS and ELR competitions I thaught that this scope would fit the bill just right when shooting to distances out to 900 meters.
I needed a scope with good glass, good turrets and good tracking that I can trust that it gets me to 2.2 mills when i turn the turrets 2.2 mills.
Already from when I pulled the scope from the box the first time I noticed that the build quality was better then I expected, don’t understand me wrong here but my ELR scope costs ten times more then this scope but still this Vector scope feels really good in the turrets, ocular focus and the overall build quality and finish.
So after first inspection all looked good and I fitted it on my Ruger SFAR 6.5 creedmoor and went to the range to zero it and get a feel for it.
Zeroing was straight forward, easy to take off the caps and set the zero stop with 3 screws as seen in many other scopes and the put the cap back on and you are of to do some serious shooting.
I put my turret on so I can go .5 mills down if needed for close range or if I need to rezero I don’t need to take the cap off and loosen the zero stop before hand.
Did some 300 meter training in the afternoon/evening the first day to see how it handled the lower light and the sun shining almost in to the scope.
Almost all scopes struggle when you get enough angle and the light shining in to the scope, but this managed pretty good by not getting all milky but it did get some glare that I with the right angle quite easily could spot my targets through and get impacts anyways.
Its not hard to shoot like this only because you get glare in the scope, you also get the sun straight in your face so its something everybody would struggles with even if you have no glare or milkyness in your glass.
After the training I did some glass testing on a lenz test chart, the sun had gone down some behind some trees and wasn’t straight in my face.
At 100 meters the contrast is good and it has a neutral colour and good brighteness, not to blue like many Japan made scopes and not to brown/yellow like many European scopes.
The colours looks true and I can only see very little cromatic abborations on the edges in the black and white areas.
No poi shift when turning the parallax that I could see, but its hard to say because I don’t have a vice for the rifle to take to the range.
Also the edge to edge clarity is great up to about 20x, then it starts to get I little fuzzy around the edges as most other scooes in this class does.
At 300 meters it’s a good quality picture, but if you put some time in to adjusting the ocular and parallax just right its very good and good edge to edge clarity up to 20x with a good eyebox to match.
I can see all the small stones in the gravel behind the targets and the bulletholes from my 6.5 in the targets.
I might have had the optimal conditions for this test but even after this test I have had it several times on the range and everybody that has looked through it has been surprised over the good image quality, even more so when I have told them the price of the scope.
So after having shot a couple of training sessions with this scope I can say that its absolutely a scope that I can recommend on any precision rifle.
It tracks good, the turrets have the right feel and audible clicks and, markings line upp all the time and the reticle is a good reticle that isn’t to cluttered but it still has all the info you need for holdovers and for milling the range to your target if needed.
Maby would be Nice with iluminated center of the reticle for close up shots because the reticle is quite fine and a little hard to se on lower magnification.
But I have glassen so might not be a problem for everyone…
After some time behind this scope now I wouldn’t have any problems putting this on my PRS rifle either and shoot it out to like a mile.
Well that’s a quick review of the Vector Ootics Taurus gen2 3-24x56.
