Taurus 2-16x50 HD SFP Rifle Scope Review

2024-07-30

Here is the Taurus 2-16x50 HD SFP Rifle Scope review from Sebastian Wickert.

Review for the Vector Optics Taurus Gen II 2-16x50 HD SFP SCOM-43

The Taurus Gen II 2-16x50 has been with me for quite a while now. I tested it extensively at distances between 50-300m. It has a 30mm monotube and optimized turrets with 1/10 MIL adjustment and zero stop. The optical system has also been heavily modified in the Gen II series. The lanthanum lens technology with low dispersion ensures extremely good imaging performance combined with impressive clarity.

I mainly shot the Taurus 2-16x50 HD at 50m and 100m targets, but it also cuts a fine figure on 200m poppers and 300m targets. Compared to the Taurus Gen I series, the imaging performance has improved greatly and has now almost reached the level of the 30mm Continental. Chromatic aberrations are kept to a minimum and the edge sharpness is very good for a rifle scope in this price range. The glass-etched VAT-6 MIL reticle with holding marks is very fine and not overloaded. The lighting is adjustable in 6 levels, bright but not ultra-bright. Eye relief and eyebox are generous, even at maximum magnification. The rifle scope is ideal for sporting shooting at medium to long distances and is a real all-rounder thanks to its magnification range of 2-16x.

In terms of quality, the Taurus Gen II is at a high level. The 30mm monotube is nitrogen filled, black hard anodized and therefore extremely durable. It is also waterproof according to IPX 67. Shot resistance is guaranteed up to and including .300 WinMag. Everything leaves a high-quality impression. Tight, not too stiff zoom ring (trow lever included). The 1/10 MIL adjustment works cleanly and accurately. The height adjustment has a zero stop, the height adjustment range is 30 MIL, the lateral adjustment range is 18 MIL. The parallax adjustment also works perfectly.

Vector Optics also offers its well-known T-VIP Lifetime Warrenty for the Taurus Gen II series. The price/performance ratio of the Taurus Gen II series is excellent, coupled with the lifetime guarantee, these riflescopes are very interesting for ambitious shooters. The price for the SCOM-43 is $ 449.

In conclusion, you can say that Vector Optics has created great rifle scopes series with the Taurus Gen II. What I personally still lack is a lock function for the turrets. The imaging performance, brightness and sharpness are impressive for a rifle scope in this price range. I have consistently achieved good to very good results with the SCOM-43 and will also compete in this year's national championships with this rifle scope. So if you are looking for an excellent all-round rifle scope at an attractive price, you should take a closer look at the Taurus Gen II series.
